Steve Taylor’s Candidate Forum Tantrum

Imagine you as a Franklin voter wanted to actually see, have access to, and get more information about the candidates of both your very own Franklin Public Schools Board of Education along with the 9th District County Supervisor race. So as a public service, something they have done several times before for the April elections, the GrandSons of Liberty, a conservative but non-partisan group from Franklin sponsors a Candidate Forum to make this happen.

This past Tuesday, all four School Board candidates came at 6:30pm at the Root River Center in Franklin where the forum was held. About 30 people were in attendance for this forum, included in the audience were, the Mayor of Franklin Tom Taylor, Alderman Ken Skowronski, Superintendant Steve Patz, Board members Deb Larson, Jeff Traylor and Melissa Klein  even former member Mary Karolewicz was there. All the candidates had a chance to speak and give the audience the opportunity to see what they stood for.

When the forum ended at about 7:15pm, Larry Gamble the moderator announce that the County Supervisor forum would be next and start at 7:30, however, Alderman Steve Taylor would not be in attendance until later as he had another commitment. This was despite the fact that Taylor had acknowledged that he would attend the forum when he was invited weeks before. Offended by Taylors discourtesy many people left out of disgust.

Oak Creek Alderman Ken Gehl answered about 8 questions that were asked by the moderator. Since there was only one candidate available the questions were opened up to the audience. Back and forth discussion went on directly with Ken until out of the back of the room Steve Taylor makes his appearance.

Steve Taylor apologized for being late but then did a 360 and turned on his host Larry Gamble to blame him for Taylor’s bad behavior.

Here is what came next:

After this tirade other members of the audience left vowing not to vote for Taylor. Additional arguments broke out between Taylor and the audience. When it came down to a summary, Taylor said there was only one difference between himself and Ken Gehl. That he, Steve Taylor had been on two other governing bodies in La Crosse and in Minnesota.

Most people that stayed said there was one more difference. Ken Gehl showed patients and the capability to work with others on County Board without getting agitated. This is something we are going to need for our next County Supervisor, someone who can work WITH the other board members for Oak Creek, Franklin and Hales Corners. Not a hothead like Steve Taylor who can’t even get along with his fellow alderman or the citizens of Franklin.

I don’t think Pete Kosovich likes Steve Taylor anymore!

During last nights common council meeting, former 4th district alderman and 2008 / 2011 candidate for the same office, gave Steve Taylor his former opponent a piece of his mind and a warning. Kosovich called Taylor what many of Pete’s supporters already said during the spring campaign depicting him as RINO (Republican in Name Only).  Kosovich continued  with with bringing into question, how the Franklin Firefighters Union supported a candidate (Taylor) who was not only a Scott Walker’s, Franklin coordinator but a $125 contributer to his campaign for Governor while the Wisconsin Firefighters Union is demanding a boycott of company’s who won’t support their cause.

Kosovich further stated, he and others would be watching Steve Taylor and pointing out his shortcomings in the next three years.

This should be interesting as Steve Taylor has publicly stated in his blog ”I chose to live in a glass house ……” and “I tell people exactly how I feel, where I stand, and I don’t like to sugarcoat issues.”

After listening and watching Pete it looks like he doesn’t either ……

Kristen Wilhelm’s 3rd District Campaign has Gone Negative

I really respected Alderwoman Kristen Wilhelm because she truly believes in what she does as a city official. She may over step her bounds at times but as a whole she tends to be a conscience on the council. In early conversations with Kristen during her re-election campaign, she personally told me of her concern that Bob Schick her opponent was a hand picked candidate of Mayor Tom Taylor.

So never in my wildest dreams did I think that she would allow bloggers, Greg Kowalski and John Michlig do the mud slinging for her that is currently going on in the third district race.

Please see:

Here are some of the comments John Michlig had to say about Bob Schick:

Just got one of Mr. Schick’s fliers attached to a Stone flier. In his literature, Schick demonizes FIREFIGHTERS, of all people, by ACCUSING incumbent Kristen Wilhelm of accepting their endorsement.

If Mr. Schick – beholden to Waste Management; unwilling to admit his employment by them; unaware of local issues by his own admission – gets more than a dozen votes, we are truly through the looking glass.

John was referring to Bob Schick’s flier which said:

“My opponent has accepted the endorsement of the Franklin Fire Fighters. Bob Schick is not beholden to any person, organization, or union other than to District 3 and community of Franklin.”

Later John Michlig writes on Kowalski’s blog:

“Old Hand” requires “proof” for that which Mr. Schick has admitted.

I was able to confirm Mr. Schick’s admission (and get his specific job title) with a Google search and a phone call – on a Sunday, even.

He and his handlers either tried to get away with something, or he is careless with important details. Either way, it has an odor worth investigating, if you get my drift.

John sarcasm is referring to Bob Schick’s part time contracting job with Waste Management as the contact person to report odors from the Waste Management site in Franklin.

In a campaign where I have been accused of having personal attacks on the 4th district candidate by Greg Kowalski, I find this all very amusing.

Kristen, I am really disappointed in this. I really though you would run a clean campaign. If this is not your doing, maybe you need to reign your supporters in!

Candidate Forum Reveals Little

On Wednesday March 16th a local citizens group provided a forum for Aldermanic candidates in both the 3rd and 4th districts in Franklin. The questions asked the candidates by local blogger John Michlig revealed very little to a small crowd of about 25 that attended the forum in the Fadrow Room in the Franklin Public Library. Here are the questions and the responses.

This video has not been edited.

Introduction of Candidates

1. When southwest Franklin receives sewer & water access, what is your view on the future of that significant portion of the city?

2. What ideas do you have to better promote Franklin to regional and national commercial developers, retailers, and restaurants?

3. What are your feelings on collaboration with other entities, such as governmental bodies and private organizations?

4. With Governor Walker’s budget proposal calling for a freeze in municipal budgets, as an alderperson what would you suggest to help maintain and/or improve our existing programs and services?

5. What are your thoughts and suggestions on the city providing support for existing small businesses in our community?

6. With many neighboring communities expanding and upgrading their public amenities (performing art centers, senior centers, athletic facilities, etc), how do you view Franklin remaining competitive in the region to attract residents and businesses?

7. When you’re elected in April, what will be the first three tasks you wish to accomplish as an alderperson?

Finally the candidates give their closing comments ……

On a closing note, most in attendance were city employees, former candidates, and bloggers. There were no questions from the audience allowed. I walked away from this candidate forum with very little clarity between the candidates for either district. A person
must ask themselves before voting, am I happy with how things are being run by the current regime. If not, vote them out! The Mayor Tom Taylor
who is running unopposed and Ken Skowronski incumbent of District 6 also running unopposed were either not invited to participate or chose not to do so.

This is your local government in action with complete transparency.

Franklin Business Leader Pete Kosovich running in the 4th District

Mention long time businessman “Peko” Pete Kosovich in the city of Franklin and especially in the 4th district, people just know who he is. Three years ago he lost his seat by a mere 10 votes to current sitting Alderman Steve Taylor. Given Taylor’s reckless spending habits and inability to get along with fellow aldermen. Pete is running again to give the residents of the 4th district the choice to make up for their mistake last election and to mend the fences that their current alderman has torn down on the common council.

Pete needs your help to bring real leadership to new 4th district residents both financially and by your vote in the April election.

Please read the attached letter and consider a donation to Pete’s campaign.

I myself am not even a resident of the 4th district and will donate to Pete’s campaign to move Franklin Forward!

See Pete’s letter and his fund raising flier below:

VOTE TO RE-ELECT PETE KOSOVICH AS ALDERMAN FOR THE

 4TH ALDERMANIC DISTRICT APRIL 5, 2010!

Dear friends of the 4th district,

I want to thank you for your words of encouragement, support and for your donations. I intend to win this race, and I believe I will, because people of Franklin have had enough of career politicians who are arrogant and disrespectful. I will serve the people of Franklin with the same type of customer service I give my business customers at Peko TV.

In 2003, I was elected an Alderman in the 4th District in a recall election. I ran a campaign to get Franklin’s Common Council running with openness, honesty & accountability. No games or deals, just honest government. I was successful, and served the people for 4 ½ years.

In 2008 I lost re-election by 10 votes out of 1472 cast. There were many besides myself who were disappointed with the 2008 election results. You vote does matter. I gave a concession speech at the next Council meeting, stating I would help with a smooth transition, but that I wasn’t done serving the people of Franklin, and to quote Arnold Schwartzenager, “I’ll be back!!”

I have since served on the Planning & the Civic Celebration Committees. I have become involved with “The Conservative Movement” AKA Tea Party. I have been active in the Republican Party, and worked on the 08’ Presidential race and Scott Walker’s campaign in 2010. I am working for the good of all, not to advance my political career.: Business owner since 1980. I’m a Member of St. Paul’s Church in Franklin since 1981. I’ve served on the board of elders, usher, choir, & misc projects. I have been a member of The Wisconsin Electronic Service Association since 1981, and I am the current State President. I was a Franklin Alderman from 11/03 through 4/08. I served on the CDA, Personnel, License, Health, Public Works, Planning, & Civic Celebration Committees.

My qualifications are

I remain active and committed to Franklin, and want your support & vote. If you would like to help with the campaign, stop in at Peko TV or call me at 761-0888 days, or 761-7664 eves.

Thanks for your support.

Sincerely,

“Peko” Pete Kosovich
